How are you all doing today?
Today I’m gonna introduce to you another one that belongs to the Goodies from the Oldies.
Timi Yuro was an American singer and songwriter and she is considered to be one of the first blue-eyed soul stylists of the rock era.
When her family moved to LA in 1952, she started to sing at the family’s restaurant and, although her parents didn’t agree, she performed in local night clubs before getting the attention of talent scout Sonny Knight.
After signing her first contract with Liberty Records in 1959, she had a US Billboard #4 single in 1961 with Hurt and after that she had some minor hits, including Smile; in 1962 she opened for Frank Sinatra on his tour of Australia and received a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, losing to Peter Nero.
Throughout the years she had some success but after her career lost its early momentum, she got married and quit the music business in 1969.
After years away from the spotlights, she attempted a comeback in the Netherlands, in 1981 and, by rerecording a version of Hurt she reached #5 on the Dutch pop charts. After signing with the Dutch record label Dureco, she record a new album All Alone Am I; it became a #1 on the Dutch album charts and was certified as a gold record, leading Yuro to move to the Netherlands until her record sales decline enough to make her return to the US, where she recorded her last album Today, later reissued in 1991 as a CD and titled Timi Yuro Sings Willie Nelson.
In the 90s she was diagnosed with throat cancer and died in 2004 in Las Vegas, at the age of 63.

I first heard her at Christmas last year and All Alone Am I made me love her immediately although when I first heard her I thought it was a him, because of her almost masculine voice.
One of my favorite songs is It Must Be Him and I highly recommend you to hear her, if you are looking for something old that will feel new and make you feel a lot of emotions.
Let me know what you think of her and if you have a favorite singer you’d like to see here, leave a comment below.
